NIELE started shaping up when Jaydeb Ghosh began teaching students for the sheer love of “education for everybody” in 1990. Mr Ghosh was specially interested in supporting others in getting access to knowledge. Perhaps he owed his flair for teaching to his forefathers, who had established a school in South 24 Parganas which is still running. At the outset, he offered coaching and guidance to school going children and college students in Garia (in the south of Kolkata). Under him, gradually, NIELE became a full fledged institution offering supplementary education. At NIELE we want to help all our young Indians to cultivate a deep understanding of oneself, nation and society. We thought we stood a better chance of accomplishing our mission if we united our expertise, effort and energy.
